The „Reallexikon der Assyriologie und Vorderasiatischen Archäologie (RlA)“ (Encyclopaedia of Ancient Near Eastern Studies) represents the most extensive publication project in Ancient Near Eastern Studies. Its first fascicle was published in 1928, the last one in 2018, all in all covering a time frame of 90 years.
Comprehensive Fundamental Work
The Encyclopaedia comprises Ancient Near Eastern archaeology, history and culture in Mesopotamia, Syria, Anatolia, Iran, Levant and neighbouring regions from prehistory to the end of the cuneiform cultures around the time of Christ’s birth.
The articles are written in German, English or French, covering names of locations, deities and kings, history, religion, literature, sciences, flora and fauna, material culture as well as art and architecture of the Ancient Near East.
